PTE points calculator
for Australian PR

Type your four PTE Academic section scores and see instantly: your English level, the points it adds to a skilled-migration application, and which section is blocking the next level — and by how much.

Information, not migration advice. Uses the published Home Affairs thresholds for points-tested skilled visas (per-section since 7 Aug 2025). Requirements change and depend on your visa — verify at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au and talk to a registered migration agent (MARA).

The thresholds this uses

Every section must reach the level in one test — your lowest section sets your level.

LevelListeningReadingWritingSpeakingPoints
Competent47485154+0 (required)
Proficient58596976+10
Superior69708588+20

Notice the shape of the Superior row: Listening 69 and Reading 70 are within reach for most strong candidates — the walls are Writing 85 and Speaking 88. That's why the calculator's gap read-out matters: it tells you where the practice hours should actually go. The 20-points guide covers the strategy side.

Common questions

How are the points worked out?
Your level is the highest one where all four sections meet the threshold: Competent (47/48/51/54) = +0 and is the baseline requirement, Proficient (58/59/69/76) = +10, Superior (69/70/85/88) = +20.
Do all four sections have to hit the level in one test?
Yes — per-section, in a single test, since 7 August 2025. Three Superior sections + one Proficient section = Proficient. Your lowest section is your level.
Is this calculator official?
No — it's an information tool using the published Home Affairs thresholds, for general guidance. Verify current requirements at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au and get advice from a registered migration agent (MARA).
One section is just a few points short — what now?
That one section is holding the whole level. The good news: a targeted gap is the easiest kind to close — practise that section's highest-leverage tasks and re-sit. Results are valid 3 years, and you can take PTE as often as you need.
