Most PTE practice sites work the same way: you get one free AI-scored mock, and the moment you want a second attempt, you hit a paywall. We flipped that model. The mock test itself — the timing, the task types, the section order, the pressure — is free forever. What you pay for, only if you want it, is the depth of the scoring.

That distinction matters because the biggest value of a mock test isn't the score. It's the rehearsal: managing the clock, switching between Read Aloud and Repeat Sentence without a breather, and finishing Write from Dictation when your concentration is nearly gone. You should be able to rehearse that as many times as you need without paying each time.

One honest note: our mock is a full timed test built to the current 22-task format, but Pearson varies the exact number of questions from sitting to sitting on the real exam, so no practice mock — ours or anyone's — is an exact clone of your specific test day.

How scoring works: free estimate vs paid AI scoring

We'd rather be straight with you than call something "AI-scored" when it isn't.

Reading and Listening are mostly objective — answers are either right or wrong — so your free mock marks those sections exactly, including the negative marking on multi-answer questions and Highlight Incorrect Words. Speaking and Writing are different: scoring them properly takes serious AI analysis of fluency, pronunciation, content and form. On the free tier, those sections get a deliberately rough on-device estimate — useful as a practice guide, but not a prediction of your real PTE score.

There's no subscription and no auto-renewal — you buy a pack of AI mock credits once and use them when a mock actually matters, typically your baseline test and the final checks before booking.

How to use free mocks properly

A mock test is a diagnostic tool, not a study method. Here's the loop that works.

1. Take a baseline mock first. Before any serious study, sit one full mock to find your real starting point. Compare your Reading and Listening marks against your target — for Australian purposes, check the current thresholds on our PTE score for Australia PR guide.
2. Drill your weakest tasks, not everything. If Speaking dragged you down, work through how to improve PTE Speaking; remember Pearson scores pronunciation as intelligibility, not accent. Use task-by-task drills rather than repeating full mocks daily.
3. Mind form rules while you drill. A brilliant Summarize Written Text scores zero on form if it isn't one sentence of 5–75 words — the word limits and timings page lists every rule.
4. Re-mock every 1–2 weeks. Track whether your exact Reading/Listening marks are moving. Our free study plan generator builds this cycle around your test date.
5. Spend AI credits at decision points. Use real AI scoring when you need a trustworthy read on Speaking and Writing — for instance, deciding whether you're ready for the 79 you need, or whether 65 is already secure per our 65-target guide.

One warning as you prep: since the 2025–26 scoring updates, Pearson's AI detects and penalises memorised word-for-word templates. Flexible structures are fine; recited scripts cost marks. Build answers you can adapt, and use mocks to pressure-test them.

Why we give the mock away

Because the paywall-after-one-test model punishes the people who need practice most.

Full disclosure of our business model: the free tier costs us very little to run (exact marking and on-device estimates are cheap), while real AI scoring of Speaking and Writing genuinely costs money per mock — so that's the part we charge for. We think that's a fairer trade than locking the practice itself behind a subscription. You get unlimited rehearsal for free; you pay only when you want examiner-grade depth, and only for the mocks where it counts.
