What is a good
PTE score?

Type your PTE Academic score and instantly see what it means: your CEFR level, the approximate IELTS band, and whether it's strong enough for university, Australian PR or Canada.

A guide, not a rule. "Good" depends on your goal — every university, employer and visa sets its own required score. IELTS equivalents use Pearson's July 2025 concordance (approximate). Always confirm the exact score your goal needs.

Common questions

What is a good PTE score?
It depends on your goal. Broadly, PTE 65+ is a strong score accepted by most universities and many skilled visas, 58–64 is good for a lot of courses, and 79+ is excellent and meets even strict requirements. Always check the exact minimum your university or visa sets.
Is PTE 65 a good score?
Yes. PTE 65 is roughly IELTS 7.0 and CEFR B2, a strong result accepted by most universities and many skilled-migration streams. Whether it is enough depends on the specific requirement of your course or visa.
What PTE score do I need for university?
Many universities ask for around PTE 50–65 overall, sometimes with a minimum in each skill, and competitive courses can want 65 or higher. Check the specific course's English requirement page.
What is a good PTE score for Australia PR?
For skilled-migration points, Competent English (the entry level) starts in the low 50s per section, Proficient adds 10 points and Superior adds 20 points, each needing higher per-section scores. Work out your level and points with the PTE points calculator.
How does PTE compare to IELTS and CEFR?
On Pearson's scale, PTE 85–90 is CEFR C2, 76–84 is C1, 59–75 is B2 and 43–58 is B1. The IELTS equivalents are approximate — for example PTE 65 is about IELTS 7.0 — and institutions set their own accepted scores.
